Anessa Reformulation / New Allie / New & Reformulated Suncut

 

[PR TIMES] New year, which means announcements of new sunscreens/reformulations are abound including the very popular Anessa UV Milk.

These are the sunscreen brands I use(d), like(d) and mainly recommend, so I'm mainly interested in keeping up-to-date on them.

Anessa Reformulation & New Releases

zzoom_zoom saw a teaser on Anessa's Insta and I thought it couldn't be true because Anessa just reformulated, right? Well...if you can count 2022 as just.

To be released Feb. 21, 2024:

  • The Perfect UV Milk & UV Skincare Gel will include their new "Auto Repair Tech" to help sunscreen better adhere to wrinkles caused by facial movements (eg: around the eyes, mouth, etc.).
    • UV Milk & Gel will also include some other ingredients such as Purple Tea Extract (said to be tea leaves high in antioxidants grown in high-UV locations) and Tangerine Extract. 
    • Still water, sweat, and friction resistant.

      • Japanese Press Release on the Auto Repair Tech (in Japanese, you can run it through Google Translate that does a decent job of getting the basic idea across)
      • "Through joint research with the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, we have discovered a new approach in which the structure of UV filters is automatically enhanced when applied to the skin, spontaneously improving UV protection and transparency on the skin. As a result, we’ve successfully developed a new sunscreen formulation that provides a high SPF without leaving a white cast." [SOURCE]
  • Perfect UV Mild will include "Smooth Protect Technology Air" will have UV filters on the "nano-level" so the sunscreen sits more comfortably on the skin.
  • Anessa is releasing a physical-only sunscreen gel called Mineral UV Sunscreen Mild Gel (SPF35, PA+++) that is gentle enough for babies.
  • The Perfect UV Skincare Spray has a more moisturizing finish.
  • New Tone Up Brightening UV Sunscreen Gel includes tranexamic acid and other skincare ingredients with a lavender-pink finish.
  • All packaging is changing from plastic bags to paper packaging as part of their "Sustainable World initiative". Apparently all of their Japanese Sunscreen are made in their Fukuoka/Kurume factory where their electricity is from 100% renewable energy too.
  • I believe it was the same as the 2020 reformulations (they were just less-loud about it compared to Allie), but their sunscreens are "Reef Safe" so it doesn't contain oxybenzone or octinoxate.   

Allie Chrono New Release

 To be released Feb. 10, 2024:

  • Like the other Allie Chronos, the new Beauty Lasting Primer UV (SPF 50, PA++++) is water, sweat and friction resistant as well as "Reef Safe". Other features include:
    • two different colors of fine pearls to impart a glow from all angles
    • formulated to adhere well to the skin and for makeup to adhere to the sunscreen
    • absorbs sebum to help prevent shine
    • claims to also be easily applied over makeup (so great for reapplication purposes)

Suncut Reformulation & New Release

Tone Up UV & Light Up UV

The New Suncut Toneup Lineup (five different colored Essences & a spray).

Released Dec. 11, 2023:

  • Lavender and Mint Green colors are joining the Suncut Tone Up UV Essence family in which two types of pearls, combined with the respective colors, help reflect light for the appearance of even skin tone and texture. Water resistant and mineral oil free.
  • The Light Up UV Essence is similar, but the finish not colored and used for brightening. (Ratzillacosme Link)
  • The Light Up UV Spray (SPF 50+ PA++++) is joining the Light Up line for the brightening effect like the Essence. It is also water resistant and mineral oil free.
  • The special edition Sakura UV Protect Spray also went on sale during this time.

Suncut Perfect UV

January 12, 2024 Edit: marcelavy also found this Suncut announcement for their 15th Anniversary. The big one...the gold version. The gel used to be my HG before I moved to Allie...the gel that hasn't been formulated since 2019 😭 This one might worry a few people...

To be released Feb. 1, 2024:

  • Their "Stretch Fit" tech seems to have been upgraded to "Super Stretch Fit" that helps the sunscreen better adhere to the skin and is sweat, water and friction resistant.
  • The changes affect:
    • Protect UV Spray (more transparent than the Perfect UV Spray)
    • Perfect UV Spray
    • Perfect UV Gel
    • Perfect UV Essence
    • Perfect UV Milk
  • The announcement made note that it's made with ingredients that's been tested by Kose not to have an effect on coral. 
    • I went over this in the sub, but Allie bought into the fearmongery, weak/bad-science with certain UV filters "killing coral" and basically shouted with their Chrono "WE'RE REEF FRIENDLY SO PLEASE BUY US TO USE ON YOUR HAWAII VACATION". Kose had a more reasonable approach and had further (but a smaller-scope) research done on the main UV filters people like to blame for "killing coral" and found that no...it doesn't (surprise). The ingredients aren't listed in this announcement, so it sounds like they may still include octinoxate.
      • "There is a substantial discrepancy of treatments of organic versus inorganic UV filters in politics as well as in the ‘reef safe’ sunscreen market, which to this point is not scientifically justified." [Source]

To be released March 1, 2024:

  • Also in the PR was a limited edition UV Protect Spray Cool that adds a cooling sensation of -5 degrees celcius that is still fragrance free with CUTE PENGUINS ON IT.
